Yuli Rudyak's Obituary
Yuli B. Rudyak, 76 passed away August 24, 2024, in Gainesville, Florida. He was born in Moscow, Russia on April 24, 1948, to Boris and Ethel Rudyak where he spent half of his life and began his lifelong career in education, moving in 1991 to Germany and in 2001 to the United States. Beyond his role as husband, father and friend, he fully dedicated himself to the world of mathematics.
“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our esteemed colleague, Professor Yuli Rudyak. Professor Rudyak is a distinguished mathematician whose contributions to algebraic topology and symplectic topology have left a lasting impact on the field. His work, recognized and respected worldwide, has significantly influenced both his students and peers. Professor Rudyak began his academic journey in Moscow, where he earned his Ph.D. in Mathematics from Moscow State University. Over the years, he held various positions across Europe before joining the University of Florida’s Department of Mathematics in 2001. Since then, he has been a vital member of our community, serving first as an Assistant Professor and later as a full Professor since 2008. Throughout his career at UF, Professor Rudyak taught a wide range of courses, from introductory calculus to advanced topics in topology. His extensive knowledge and passion for mathematics inspired many students and colleagues alike. Beyond his academic achievements, Professor Rudyak was a cherished friend and mentor, known for his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering support. We extend our deepest condolences to Professor Rudyak’s family during this difficult time. Yuli is survived by his wife, Irina, their daughter, Marina Rudyak, and his younger brother Konstantin Rudyak.

Services for Yuli will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at Williams-Thomas Funeral Home Westarea 823 N.W. 143rd Street, Newberry, Florida 32669.
