William E. "Mac" McEachern, Jr.'s Obituary
Former Gainesville mayor and city commissioner William E. “Mac” McEachern, Jr., age 92 of Gainesville passed away Sunday, May 7, 2023, at his home.
He was born April 26, 1931, in Montbrook, FL near Williston to the late William E. Sr. and Floy McCall McEachern. He moved to Gainesville in the early 40’s and graduated from P. K. Yonge in 1950. Mac proudly served in the United States Air Force as an aircraft mechanic. He served on the Gainesville city commission for six years during the 1980s and as the mayor from 1983-1984. He was a telephone man with Bell South Telephone Company, and in his younger years he worked as a realtor. Mac enjoyed flying and sharing his knowledge with younger folks and served for nine years on the Gainesville Airport Authority. He and his wife June had been married for 55 years on April 20th of this year.
He is survived by his wife, June, daughter, Trina and granddaughter, Alicia.
A small private graveside service will be held in Evergreen Cemetery.
