William (Bill) Kenneth Demers Sr.'s Obituary
William (Bill) Kenneth Demers Sr., 83 of Deland Florida, passed away February 13th 2015 following a full life, at home with his family united in prayer at his bedside.
Bill was born June 3rd, 1931 to William Omnidos Demers and Laura (Vandal) Demers in Pawtucket, Rhode Island USA. As a child, he grew up in Pawtucket RI with his brothers and sisters, Rose McKenna, and Jeanette Vecoli, both deceased, and remains survived by John Demers and Laura Alysworth
He graduated from Attleboro High School, and joined the Navy where he held the position of Fireman for 4 years before he was honorably discharged.
Bill found his love Nancy Patricia Callahan and they were joined sacramentally with Christ on June 3rd, 1954 at Saint John’s Catholic Church in Attleboro, Mass. Following this, Bill worked for many companies, himself and his family. He wore many hats including Electrical Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Custodian, Electrical Maintenance, Carpenter, Security Guard, Mechanical Technician and his favorite position, the CEO of the Demers Household and steadfast soldier of God.
Bill’s continuing legacy is carried by his loving wife Nancy and his adoring children Robert, Michael, Cheryl, Padraig (dec.), James, Sarah, Danielle, Nancy, Jennifer, Maureen, William Jr. and Mary-Kathleen. Others left to continue his work are his 24 Grandchildren, 25 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great-Great Grandchild, all of whom he loved.
Although Bill held many positions and accomplished much in the workplace his greatest accomplishment was his fortitude and strength to keep his family together no matter what challenges humanity placed upon them. He was the stable foundation for all who knew him and his presence provided the comfort of a loving embrace. Bill managed to teach others what it means to be a responsible steward of God and how to love everyone that touches you in your life. His work continues to shine through us all.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, February 20, 2015 at 9:30 AM at the Holy Faith Catholic Church located at 747 North West 43rd St., Gainesville Florida. The family will receive friends Thursday, February 19, 2015, 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with a vigil to begin at 7:00 PM. Bill will be interred in Bourne, Massachusetts come spring at the National VA Cemetery.
