Walter Baugh, 42 of Gainesville, passed away Monday morning. He is survived by his wife, Karen Baugh of Gainesville, his father, Walter Baugh of Virginia, his mother, Debbie DeWein of Newberry, his sister, Wendy Tatum of Newberry, Read Obituary
Walter even though i only knew you for a year and a half while working with dan and Dana dugger i am going to miss the long talks we had and the good times we had at work and will never forget you and all your help. Thank you for everything.
Thank you for driving across town to bring me a dozen red roses at the end of my first week at a new high school where I had no friends. Thank you for my love of all things baseball and the Dallas Cowboys. Thank you for hanging out at the bowling alley, football games and various other fun places with me in our younger days. Thank you for asking me 10 years later to move to Texas for the adventure of a lifetime! Thank you for understanding how much I missed my family and moving back to Virginia with me. There are so many more things to thank you for but most of all thank you for loving me and being my friend for the past 26 years. Rest in peace Walter. Love Always -Lisa
Walter I really wish I could have made it down to Florida today I would really love to meet your friends there and trade stories with them.I remember when I worked at the Shell station in Meadowbrook Plaza and you went and got a job right next door at the Hardee's you would always be bringing me free food and for some reason bringing a whole coffee pot of coffee over even though you knew I didn't drink the stuff I think you would do stuff just to get on your boss's nerves.Another good one I remember is in 9th grade and we sat right beside each other in Mrs.Senkalski's class we were taking a major test and you are sitting there with your text book wide open reading out answers to me and Mrs.Senkalski is standing over you shoulder just steaming so what do you do add fuel to the fire by saying what I thought this was an open book test and I have no clue if I spelled her name right.I will miss you so much so glad I got to see you one more time before you became one of God's angels.I always thought it was so ironic that you ended up in Gainesville,Florida when I am the one that has always been the huge Gators fan and of course I will miss our arguments during the NFL season your love of them Cowboys and mine of the Redskins.I loved you as a brother growing up in our teen years and I still have that love for you today.
I first met Walter at Mega Gaming and Comics. I was freshly new to mtg, and I was worried that being a female would alienate me from the the long-time gamers. Walter and his wife Karen welcomed me and even let me playtest at their apartment. He was always actively trading for new cards to build his wife commander decks which always made me smile.
Everyone told me he was the best in the shop and at one of my first events (M13 prerelease) I beat him in the top eight. I thought, "wow if I could beat Walter I might have a chance at being decent at this game competitively". Now I play magic competitively and travel everywhere for the game, four years later. If it were not for his encouragement, I may never have continued playing this amazing game. I know we have not spoken since i moved, but your influence ignited a competitive spark in me. Thank you for inspiring me to be a better player Walter. I will always remember you and carry you in spirit when I game. I game for you now buddy ?
I remember meeting Walter and his wife Karen for the first time to teach them taekwondo. He enjoyed taking the classes so much he would tell me how he had told friends what he was doing if he missed out on Magic: The Gathering. My deepest sympathies for Karen I know what he meant to you.
The first time I met Walter was at FNM in Gainesville. I had just moved into town and he greeted me with open arms. Since then, we've both been staples at local tournament top 8's and I will never forget the fun times we had. We were completely different people, but we were both driven to perform better in Magic events. I would always look forward to seeing him, Karen, Erik, and Adam at Walter's place every Thursday for playtesting. He was always there for us and invited everyone to his place. We might not have seen each other in a few months, but his image will always be engraved in my mind. Walter always had his signature long pony tail. I'll never forget the day he cut his hair. My mind was blown. If I ever felt like eating pho, I knew I could count on him to join me. My heart aches and my brain is befuddled with so many mixed emotions at this time. I still can't put all of my emotions into words right now. Love you Walter. I'll see you soon. Rest in peace, buddy.
Walter was so funny. He could always make me laugh. I enjoyed just watching tv with him with the cats and dog around us. I really enjoyed having our friends and family over at the house. Walter was a good cook. It was so nice having the gang come over and play Magic, board games, watch tv or whatever. I really enjoyed our road trips to some event with awesome friends. I loved having holidays or watching football with his family. He brought so many wonderful people and activities into my life. His enthusiasm was contagious. He had a tender, compassionate heart towards friends, family, old people and animals. Much love and may you rest in peace.
I will always remember Walter for having a story to tell. It's those stories and the many road trip adventures that I will remember most. Things were never boring with him around.
