Vince Santostefano's Obituary
Vince Santostefano, a man whose stories and laughter filled every room, passed away peacefully at his Melrose home on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at the age of 85.
Born on May 28, 1940, in Brooklyn, New York. Vince was a natural in the water, earning a bachelor’s degree from Adelphi University where he was a champion swimmer. His early career as a swim coach not only shaped young athletes but also built the foundation for many of his most cherished friendships. He celebrated the pinnacle of his coaching career as a vital part of the University of Florida staff, helping the team clinch three national championships in 1982, 1983, and 1984.
Vince and his wife, Ann, turned a shared passion for coin collecting into a thriving business that became a staple in the Gainesville community for 45 years. Beyond his professional achievements, Vince was defined by his generous spirit and his knack for connecting with people. He cherished his family and friends—both two-legged and four-legged—and found true joy in sharing a good story.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Ann, and his son, Charlie and his wife Toni. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent James and Charlotte, and his sisters, Janet and Irene.
A celebration of his remarkable life with a reception will be held Sunday, September 21, 2025 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m at Williams-Thomas Westarea, 823 NW 143rd Street, In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to the UF swimming program: Gator Splash Club, 3918 NW 34th Drive, Gainesville, Florida 32605.
