My husband and I worked at Fort Clarke Middle School during the years that Tommy was there. I remember that he was always cheerful. When Tommy began walking regularly to Publix on 43rd St., we saw him often, since we live near that store. Tommy soon learned our car and called greetings to us as we waved. When I was walking to Possum Creek, I sometimes came up beside him and asked how he was doing. He always greeted me by name... "I'm fine, Mrs. Owens. Good day to you." Sometimes we had short conversations, and once he even told me a cute, funny joke that made me laugh. I was always amazed that Tommy remembered both of us, over 30 years later.
