Stuart Eugene Hoskins' Obituary
Stuart Eugene Hoskins, age 77 of Gainesville, FL. passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2024. Stuart was born on October 28, 1946, in Corpus Christi, Texas to Eugene Calvin and Betty Frances Touchton Hoskins.
Stuart was proud to have degrees from both the University of Florida and Florida State. Stuart started at the University of Florida in 1979 as an accountant in the Financial Aid office. Over the next 34 years he held various positions in Student Government, the Bursar’s Office and the University’s Controllers Office.
In 1996, he became an Associate Controller in Finance and Accounting and was promoted to Senior Associate Controller in 2004. He was an integral part of the Finance and Accounting leadership team until he retired in 2013.
During his career he was very active in NAFTAA and NACUBO presenting at various conferences. Stuart was a kind and caring leader of people and a favorite of all who worked with him.
His tenure at UF was very accomplished with numerous efficiencies and creative solutions adopted by the other higher education institutions.
Stuart in his younger years enjoyed running for sport and ran the National Marine Corp Marathon in 1998 and 1999.
He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing several days a week after retirement with various friend groups who became like family. He took great pride in being a faithful volunteer and part time employee at Turkey Creek Golf Course to help the course become operational again.
He is survived by his children, Gene Calvin Hoskins (Aimee), Dogs, Strawberry and Ruby, daughter, Julie Hoskins Gallop (Weston), grandchildren, Mary Grace, Elijah Ray and Kate Juliet Gallop.
