Sandra Sue (Torr) Wittmer's Obituary
Sandra Sue (Torr) Wittmer of Gainesville, Florida, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 18, 2024, at the age of 87. She was born to the late Edmond and Ethel (Hunt) Torr in 1938 in Greencastle, Indiana. She is survived by her three children, Diane Wittmer Thompson (husband Buddy) of Melrose, Florida, Scott Wittmer of Gainesville, Florida and David Wittmer (wife Kara) of Bangor, Maine; and four grandchildren, Raechel, Haley, Colby and Torria, two great grandchildren, Daniel and Noah and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Joe Wittmer in 2014, her sister Nancy (Torr) Andis in 2023 and her parents, Ethel in 1980 and Edmond in 1994.
She was well educated, graduating with a two-year Secretarial Degree from Indiana State University in 1958, an Associate of Arts Degree from Santa Fe College in 1971, and a Baccalaureate Degree in Education in 1973 and a Masters Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling in 1978 from the University of Florida.
She began her counseling career at the University of Florida Office of Student Services as Interim Assistant Dean, administering program development for disabled students. In 1980, she became the Coordinator for the Disabled Student Program at Santa Fe College. She was then promoted to the position of Associate Director of the Santa Fe College High School Dual enrollment program from which she retired in 2003.
She was an avid animal lover, volunteering for many years at the University of Florida Veterinary Clinic. She loved traveling the world and visited over 30 different countries. She was extremely imaginative and creative and appreciated many types of art. She enjoyed drawing, photography, quilting, musical theater and word puzzling. She loved all Gator sports, especially basketball.
A Life Celebration Service will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. in the Trinity United Methodist Church Chapel, 4000 NW 53rd Avenue, with Dr. Dan Johnson officiating. Friends and family who wish to attend the interment of her ashes in the Trinity United Methodist Church Memorial Garden prior to the service (12:15 p.m.), are welcome.
