Robert Lowell Garrett's Obituary
Robert Lowell Garrett, age 44, passed away Saturday, February 14, 2015 at Haven Hospice in Gainesville, FL after a 3 year battle with ALS. Robert was born in Winter Park, FL on June 23, 1970.
Robert grew up in Gainesville and graduated from Gainesville High School in 1988. After high school, Robert attended Santa Fe Community College, and transferred to the University of Florida where he received a B.A. in Exercise & Sports Science in 1996. He enrolled at the University of Central Florida and earned a Masters Degree in Physical Education in 1999. Robert finished his schooling at Barry University where he earned a Masters of Arts degree in Occupational Therapy. He worked for 3 years as an Occupational Therapist in Ocala, FL. He was an active member of the Gainesville Quarterback Club.
Robert enjoyed attending Gator sporting events, playing basketball, watching silly movies, playing video games, spending time with friends, and eating pizza. Robert loved to be casual in a t-shirt and flip flops. He had the uncanny ability to remember sports stats from each and every game he ever saw, as well as the day and location of each person he met.
Robert is survived by his wife, Amber Garrett, daughter Kayleigh Elise Garrett, son Thomas Hugh Garrett, father and stepmother Lowell and Sandy Garrett, mother and stepfather Gail Wells and Lane DeMontmollin, sister Cecelia Garrett, stepbrothers Duane and Donald Beall, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends.
There will be a celebration of life Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME DOWNTOWN, 404 North Main Street with a reception to follow for family and friends. Interment will be at Memorial Park Central 4100 NW 39th Avenue. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to http://www.gofundme.com/k1l5e4 with all money going into a Florida Prepaid College Fund for his children, or to the local ALS Chapter in Gainesville.
