Robert "Alex" Alexander Price's Obituary
Robert Alexander Price (Alex) passed away unexpectedly on May 22, 2024, at age 55.
Alex was born to Rise Jenkins and Nolan Price in Tupelo, Mississippi on March 20, 1969. As a child, Alex was raised in the Cayman Islands, Coral Gables, and Tupelo. He loved the water, adventure, music, and sports. He had a quick wit, humor, an engaging smile, and a warm heart for those in need.
At age 23, he married Catherine Crenshaw, and together, they completed their undergraduate degrees at the University of Central Florida. Alex completed a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN; Sigma Theta Tau, Summa Cum Laude) at UCF. He then completed a Master of Science in Nursing at the University of Pennsylvania (MSN; Sigma Theta Tau), specializing in Adult Tertiary/Acute Care Nursing--Cardiopulmonary Specialty.
Occupationally, Alex pursued his passion for heart failure and cardiac care management at the University of Pennsylvania (5 years), the University of Florida Health / Shands Hospital (10 years), The Cardiac and Vascular Institute (12 years), and most recently the North Florida-South Georgia Veterans Health System - Gainesville. He was an outstanding clinician and well-known for his extremely caring nature, comprehensive and thorough evaluations, and comprehensive communication style for diagnosis and care management. He was a mentor to junior clinicians and a confidant to coworkers.
At age 38, Alex and his wife welcomed their only daughter – Ashlynn – into the world. Alex was an incredible dad. He was an avid reader of how best to raise a child and tried to ensure she was always safe, happy, and well-rounded educationally, spiritually, and physically. He was an emotionally patient, vibrant, and fully supportive dad – teaching her the arts of humor, comedy, sarcasm, music, and sports. He loved that his daughter had a talent for voice, guitar, theatre, and film – and fully supported her endeavors.
Alex loved to travel. Favorite trips were taken to Ireland, Alaska, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, and Belize. He was also an outstanding “trip planner” – finding the best locations for housing, restaurants, and tours.
Alex loved animals. Alex was a dog-whisperer to Lonely, Casey, Duff, Sammy, Penny, Casey (#2), Turk, and Maggie. Alex was also a bird whisperer and had a special connection to crows, ravens, and doves.
Alex loved all sports and was a Florida Gator Booster. As a child, he was particularly talented in baseball. As an adult, his favorite sports included volleyball (which he played faithfully on Sundays with friends), cycling, baseball, football, and basketball. He maintained a special talent and affection for swimming in all types of water. In his thirties and forties, Alex was also an avid and talented Gainesville Cycling Club “A Rider” – and gliding through the wind on his own power seems an appropriate metaphor for his take on life.
Alex is survived by wife, Catherine; daughter, Ashlynn; mother, Rise; father, Nolan; brother, Greg; stepfather, Bill; stepmother and sister, Bobbie and AJ; sister-in-law, Amy; niece and nephew, Samantha and Jackson; father and mother-in-law, Neil and Nancy; extraordinarily close friends, Tracy and Chuck; dogs Turk and Maggie. We will forever miss him.
A memorial service date is to be determined and will be a celebration of his life.
In lieu of flowers or food, memorial donations may be made in Alex’s name to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention or to his daughter’s college fund [College America, PO Box 2713 Norfolk, Virginia, 23501-2713; on check reference account #87867014 invested in Fund #1051].
