Peggy Jo Davenport Brooks' Obituary
Peggy Jo Davenport Brooks passed away on January 10, 2026, in Gainesville, Florida. She was born on July 8, 1937, in Evansville, Indiana, to James Daniel and Dorothy Montgomery Jeffers.
Peggy loved spending time at the beach and in the mountains. She especially cherished her annual beach retreat with close friends. A past president of the Junior Women’s Club, Peggy was deeply committed to service and took great pride in her work with the Kidney Foundation. She was also an Executive Director of the Alachua County Medical Society.
Peggy is survived by her daughters, Debra Shaw (Buckley) of Alachua, FL and Denise Boothby (Gary) of Newberry, FL; brother, James D. Jeffers II (Vivian) of Lutz, FL; sister Joyce Eskridge (Kent) of Evansville, IN; grandchildren, Danielle, Buck, Brandon, Baylee, and Brittany; and four great-grandchildren. She is preceded by husbands, William John Davenport and Col. Benjamin Brooks; and her son, John David Davenport.
The family will gather for a private burial at Forest Meadows Central Cemetery.
