Nancy Lee (Bacon) DeLacure's Obituary
Nancy Lee (Bacon) DeLacure died peacefully on Wednesday, October 15th, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. She was born to Stella Lee Street Bacon and Ernest Wolcott Bacon in Germantown, Pennsylvania on February 11, 1935. Nancy grew up in Savannah, Georgia and graduated from Savannah High School. After high school, Nancy attended Armstrong Junior College and then University of Georgia completing her studies in Spanish Literature in 1955. She was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority.
While finishing her senior year at UGA she met the love of her life, Dennis, while he was still an active member of the US Air Force. She married Dennis in 1955 and moved to Durham, NC for Dennis to attend Duke Divinity School. She worked as a bookkeeper in a retirement home until they were appointed to a UMC ministry position in Florida. They started their family and had 3 children, and she became the most wonderful full time mother ever. She treasured her role as mom. She was always involved in her children’s school and sporting events and supported Dennis' ministerial career, often referring to herself as his "Girl Friday" for the variety of ways she helped support his career. She was lovingly devoted and embraced the tasks that came with being the minister's wife. She participated in the Altar Guild committee and served on numerous other committees at the church, as well as making her special dishes for the potluck dinners.
In her later years, she resumed her hobby of knitting and created and donated countless prayer shawls to FUMC. Over the span of many years, she knitted and donated more than 130 blankets and nearly as many hats and scarves to children all over the world through the World Vision organization. She would pray over these pieces she made, hoping that the children who received them could feel the love in every stitch. She loved having a hobby that she could share with others.
Nancy was preceded in death by her husband Dennis and her beloved parents, Stella and Ernest Bacon,, and her daughter-in-law, Susan Wofford DeLacure..
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her daughter Lisa (Ken), her sons Stephen and Mark and her beloved grandchildren, David, Corey, Madeline, and Samantha and a community of friends made throughout her life. She leaves a legacy of love and will be forever missed.
