Monteen Pooser Lerew's Obituary
Monteen Pooser Lerew, 60, of Newberry, Florida, passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by her husband and children, on July 2nd, 2025.
Born at Alachua General Hospital in Gainesville, Florida on October 13, 1964, Monteen was a devoted Christian and member of Union Baptist Church. She graduated from Bell High School in 1982, where she met the love of her life, Jay Lerew, and soon after they married on May 4, 1985. Monteen graduated from Lake City Community College in 1984 and spent 37 years as a Registered Nurse and personal caregiver. She provided compassionate care to countless friends, family, and community members, and was exceptionally dedicated in her care for her daughter Monica.
Monteen was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret, father, Joseph, and sister, Patty. She is survived by her husband, Jay, her children, Nicholas and Monica, and her siblings, Elaine, Art, and Robin.
Monteen will be remembered for her deep and selfless love for all of God’s creatures and creations, especially people and cats. She had a unique ability to notice and appreciate the small joys that can be found in every moment of life. She had a mischievous and playful sense of humor and never hesitated to say “I love you” to anyone.
The family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (cff.org) to honor the memory of Monteen.
Friends and family are invited to a celebration of Monteen's life at Union Baptist Church in Newberry, FL on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at 2:00pm. Monteen was a vibrant and joyful soul, and could often be found wearing purple, her favorite color. We welcome those attending her celebration to do the same.
