I'm so sorry to hear of Mike's passing. I first worked with Mike on the outfitting of the new Cancer Hospital. I was very new to construction and Mike was very kind and patient with me teaching me the right way to do things. He worked hard and he did things right. I always enjoyed chatting with Mike because he reminded me of my own father who had recently passed. Rest In Peace dear Mike.
I am so sorry to hear of the passing of my friend, Mike Slade. Mike and I shared a love for rural Florida living, and in particular, old tractors. I met Mike through my work, and I worked with him for many years. Mike was a talented tradesman and craftsman, and he was one of the hardest working men that I have ever met. Many projects at Shands Hospital were completed because of his talents and problem- solving abilities. Many things also happened there because he worked all through the night or weekend to get things done right and on time. I will miss our conversations the most. We talked about his family, and I learned that he loved his children very much. We talked about work. We talked about country life-deer, turkeys, fishing, the weather, the water level of the creek, and how many rattlesnakes we had encountered. Mike never beat around the bush-you always knew where he stood. He was a good man, and I will miss him. Praying for the comfort of the Lord for his family.
We worked together for many years on many projects and I cant say enough about Mikes work ethic and his determination to get things done. He was always positive, willing , and ready no matter the challenge or hours. He was truly dedicated to Shands and often said, "I love my job and I love Shands." Recently, in my last conversation with him, he told me how much he loved his Family and farm and how his life had changed since retiring but he was ready to step into the loving arms of Jesus for his final Journey. Happy Trails Mike.

I got called in at 2am for a building issue...and Mike was there still working on something he had going on. A most dedicated and giving person. Mike left an example of hard work, friendship and commitment for all of us to follow. You wont just be missed, you will be remembered, Mike.

Mike was a very well respected co worker and friend. We will all miss Mike here at work and outside work. Mike was my go to guy to get anything done. Mike was a special guy and we know he is in a special place. We send the family our sympathy and prayers for the loss of such a Great Father and Friend.

I'm so sorry to hear of Mike's passing. As the interior designer at Shands for the past 25 years I can tell you that Mike was my "go-to man" when we needed something special built or installed - especially for the Children's Hospital. I'm not sure what I enjoyed more, presenting him with a challenge, or watching him find the solution. For instance, when I wanted to put fun designs in to the hospital flooring and I wasn't sure how to do it, Mike insisted on figuring it out. To this day, just outside the back doors to the Children's Emergency entrance there are three little gators in the floor installed by Mike. He figured it out, and it's something we now do every time we renovate a children's area. Those three little gators always make me smile and think of Mike.
Thank you, Mike. May you rest in peace.

I had the pleasure of working with Mike at UF Health Shands hospital. Mike was a very dedicated, hard worker and would often share how much he loved his two children and his mama. I send all of his family my sincere sympathy. May Mike rest in eternal peace.
