Michael "Mick" C Mickey's Obituary
Mr. Michael “Mick” C Mickey of Ft. White was called home unexpectedly at the age of 69 on May 27, 2024. He is survived by his loving wife Lynn Gardner, their 2 pups Jazz and Ripp, his 3 siblings Charlie, Jean and Donna and many nieces and nephews. Whether you knew him as Mike, Mick or The Hammer you knew him to be larger than life with a personality as big as his 6’4” frame. “Mike was the youngest of all the siblings and celebrated as the largest personality and favored by all”, so says his loving nephew, Ethan Newport.
Mick was born in Ohio and when he was young spent many of his formative years with his Russian immigrant grandparents on their dairy farm. He learned to love the land, animals and working hard to care for your homestead and those you love from his upbringing.
Mick had varied talents, ranging from being a machinist building gears for the Panama Canal, to working in construction and as an arborist. He enjoyed spending time outdoors riding his Harley, camping, and hunting alongside the love of his life. Lynn and Mick built a beautiful homestead, where he spent many years making improvements that were referred to as “Mick built”, which to the common man may have seemed over-built. If you knew Mick, you knew he had especially high standards when it came to his craftsmanship, which ensured his projects would withstand the test of time.
Mick wasn’t just a big tough guy though, he enjoyed playing with his dogs, driving like a mad man in his Ranger and raising cows (you were yummy April & May). He was a bit of a perfectionist and took pride in his home. He loved his family and friends fiercely.
We have all lost the incredible human known as “Big Mick” and certainly his family, friends and the community will miss him until they are able to meet again.
A service will be held on June 15, 2024 at 1pm at Destiny Community Church 20820 W Newberry Rd, Newberry, Florida 32669. There will be a small reception directly following the service held at the church.
