Marie (Faircloth) Pendleton Witt's Obituary
Marie (Faircloth) Pendleton Witt, 82, loving wife, mother and grandmother, was welcomed home by her Heavenly Father on October 15, 2015 after a five-year battle with Inclusion-Body Myositis, a degenerative muscular disease. In the days preceding her passing, she was surrounded by her closest family members.
Marie is preceded in death by her son, Steve Pendleton, in 1995 and her brother, Charlie “Peanut” Faircloth, in 2010. She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Clarence “Edward”; by three children, Michelle Trimm, Russell Pendleton, and Kenny Pendleton; by three grandchildren, William Pendleton, Michael Trimm (Stacia) and Stephanie Trimm; by a brother, Larry Faircloth; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Marie was born in Pelham, GA to Nora Hattie Bell Stephens and Lawrence Faircloth. She lived in various cities across Georgia during her childhood, and at the age of 15 entered Berry High School (now Berry College) in Rome, GA. In the 1960s, she moved to Gainesville, FL where she has lived ever since. A devoted follower of Christ, she was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church for over 30 years and served in many areas, including Missions and Outreach, the Earnest Workers circle of United Methodist Women, and Thursday Lunch Bunch.
Marie was also heavily involved in community outreach. She was a longtime volunteer and board member of Gainesville Community Ministry and Community Action Agency and served as the Treasurer for Church Women United. She was a loyal alumna of Berry High School (now College), and received an honorary diploma for her work with the Alumni Association.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at 11:00 am at WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME DOWNTOWN, 404 N. Main St., Gainesville. The family will hold a visitation with friends an hour prior. Burial will take place at Sasser’s Landing Cemetery in Jennings, FL.
