Marie Karen Jurkiewicz's Obituary
Marie Karen Jurkiewicz of Gainesville, FL passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Haven Hospice. Marie was born October 08, 1947 in Jersey City, New Jersey to Walter and Marie Ehrman McLaughlin.
She attended Jersey City State College (’69) and later she graduated with a Masters’ Degree in Education from the University of Cincinnati. She was a passionate elementary school teacher for over 30 years, and also loved teaching English to students as their 2nd language. Marie was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and a special friend to many. She was a social, giving person who helped all. She loved her Irish Setters dog over the years. She enjoyed spending time antiquing, traveling, especially if it involved history. After retiring she spent more time seeing her grandchildren, reading, and attending book clubs. She spent many weekends with friends at their second home on Lake Waynoka in Ohio.
She is preceded in death by her parents Walter and Marie McLaughlin, and youngest son Thomas Jurkiewicz.
Marie was a loyal and loving wife to her surviving husband Frank Jurkiewicz, Jr. of 55 years. She is also survived by her son Frank (Sheena) Jurkiewicz III of Gainesville, FL, and three grandchildren Alaina, Evan and Liliana of Gainesville, FL., and many extended family members and friends who will miss her presence in their lives.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, September 30th, 10:00am at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 10900 SW 24th Ave., with Fr. Al Esposito as celebrant. The family will receive friends a half hour prior to the mass for a time of visitation. A reception will follow.
Marie's funeral service will be live streamed on Facebook under her daughter in law, Sheena Jurkiewicz, account.
