Mack Vlacos' Obituary
Mack Angel Vlacos, 89, of Gainesville, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born on April 29, 1936, in Trenton, Florida, to John Vlacos and Ella Mae Padgett. On July 16, 1959, he married the love of his life, Mary Carolyn Shealy, at her parents’ home in Gainesville, Florida. They built a beautiful life & shared 66 wonderful years of marriage.
Mack dedicated much of his life to hard work and service. He worked for the City of Gainesville in the Building and Grounds Department and later performed maintenance for KFC before retiring. He proudly served in the National Guard and was honorably discharged. Mack will be remembered for his strong work ethic, kind spirit, and deep love for his family. In his free time, Mack enjoyed playing softball and bowling with his church league.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Carolyn; his daughters Judy (Marc) Kirby, Angela (Darrell) Thomas, and Maxine (Ricky) Beard; grandchildren Elise, Annalissia, John, Brittani, Tiffani (Brian), Nicolis (Dakota), Colton, Kaylie, Alexandra (Kyle), Dalton, Mikael, and Darrell Jr.; and great-grandchildren Cruz, Mariah, Ava, Everly, and Landon. He is also survived by his siblings Bobby(Bertha) Vlacos,Jerry (Linda) Vlacos, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Mack was preceded in death by his son, John Vlacos; his brother, George Vlacos; and his sisters, Olga Davis and Martha Varnes.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at 10:30 AM at Williams-Thomas Funeral Home, 404 North Main Street, Gainesville, FL.
