I first met and learned to love and appreciate Lloyd back in middle school days when "Big Lloyd" was still alive (but He is another story). Mini-bike and dirt bike riding days and boy did we all love going out to Cow-pen lake and get dirty riding to the Kayola mines and come back and wash off in the lake. We all almost died trying to swim to an island out in the middle of that lake. We swam out there but when we got there it was just grass, no land and several water moccasins chased us all the way back to shore. That was when we first learned what the word endurance really means. I remember building ramps and pretending we were Evil Kenevil. Lloyd would not only make the jump but land riding a wheelie and keep on trucking. We were pranksters and loved turning off the lights at Lake Forrest Elementary on regular basis; playing pocket book and running from the law who occasionally tried to catch us but to no avail. We took on all comers in sand-lot football and basically went undefeated usually winning in a blow out. There were the Robinson Heights boys with Huey Blackman; The NE / Hunter brother boys, a whole family of big dudes from Alabama on a visit to our neighborhood not to mention the NW GHS crew we played at the gator drill field on Sundays for a while there. They were the only ones who really challenged us and actually beat us few times; but they had Wade Studstill (Former Gator Player) and Darrell Dickie, Yes, Gator Coach Doug Dickie's son who played QB for Vanderbilt on their team. It took talent to take on the old South East 45th Street Gang and Lloyd was one of the big reasons why. Its a shame we all had to grow up and become adults because we had a great childhood even though we were from what many consider the wrong side of the tracks, that is South East Gainesville. Going to miss you Lloyd, you were a brother to me. Sincerely, Bill McCrea
Although only my brother-in-law for a short time, L.T. and I became really close and he was someone I have never forgotten, nor will I ever forget! As life went on we drifted apart but I always remember his loving spirit and gentle soul. I rarely saw him angry. His loyalty to his family, friends, dogs and the Florida Gators, is a testimony to the purity of his heart! I love you my brother and wish I had spent more time with you in the latter years...;( The Gator Nation will keep Chompin for you!!! You will be missed!
