Joyce Eve Brown's Obituary
Joyce Eve (Golda) Brown (nee Bender) passed away peacefully on February 22, 2024 at the age of 72. Joy, as she was known to her friends, was born in Brooklyn, NY on January 1, 1952 to Gerald Bender and Rosalind L. Bender/Willensky (nee Bloom). In June of 1973, Joy married Michael Brown in New York and they quickly made their home in Gainesville, FL. Joy was a lover of nature and had many hobbies that included bird watching, gardening, baking (especially pies), and taking long meandering motorcycle rides. Joy had a rewarding career at Corner Drug Store, Inc. for more than 20 years and took pride in her work. But above all, Joy loved her family and was a committed and loving wife and mother.
Joy is preceded in death by her devoted parents, Gerald and Rosalind, and her beloved husband, Michael. She is survived by her partner, Robert “Spider” Morris, son, Adam Brown (Yoshimi Kaga), daughter, Rachael Brown (Joshua Jericho), and her grandson, Luca Michael Jericho; an older brother, Mark Bender (Lisa Bender), a younger sister, Bonnie Leighty (nee Bender), and many nieces and cousins.
Friends and family are invited to attend the graveside service on Sunday, February 25, 2024 at 11:00am at B’nai Israel cemetery, 1101 E. University Ave, Gainesville, FL 32641. Following the service, shiva will be observed at 1020 NW 21st Avenue, Gainesville, FL, 32609; family and friends are invited to come and reminisce about Joy’s marvelous life. In lieu of flowers please donate to The Humane Society of North Central Florida.
