How can one even begin to describe knowing John? He was extremely funny and always had a creative story to tell. FBI chase stories, not so "smart" criminal adventures, old partners and their shenanigans. In addition, his beautiful children and how much they meant to him. He always said I wish I had been a better father and I would say I think they love the man you are right now. Ben stories and adventures were daily conversations and for his birthday my friend Bill and I would get dog presents for Ben since that meant so much more to him. He was just a ray of sunshine and I will miss him terribly. God bless you and keep you in His care sweet John! You will be greatly missed!

To John’s wonderful children and family, in a way it’s hard knowing where to start in talking about John but I guess we first met back in the 70’s when he wanted to buy The Mad Monk’s Inn. There is not enough space here to tell all of the stories John shared with me about that endeavor, but later when he was fed up with being a restaurateur, I helped him get out from under it which forever earned me the moniker of “Saint Ernest.” Later, when we were neighbors in Boardwalk, I sat on his deck many an afternoon drinking rum and “climbing Mount Gay with him. ” We both shared a love of sailing, and when I no longer had a boat of my own, I knew I could “hitch a ride” with John.
Over the past few years our careers and interests took us in different directions, but every time I called him or we met for long overdue lunch, it was a wonderful time to catch up. With John’s passing, another little of piece of me goes with him. All those memories that the two of us shared cannot be recalled with the same luster as before. It will be the same with many of you as well. May God bless him.

I worked with John at the Clerk's office. I am shocked to lose this wonderful new friend so soon. Family of John, I cannot imagine how you must feel to lose one so dear. He has a great mind and a greater heart. I will miss our talks! I look forward to seeing him again in God's kingdom. I hope you will find comfort in this also.

I worked with John at the Alachua County Clerk Of Court. He was a great friend and
co-worker. I will truly miss our talks and his stories about Ben, his family and his FBI career. He was the type of person who could always put a smile on your face even if you were having a bad day. He will be truly missed and I am glad he came into my life if only for a short time.

I was privileged to work with John this past year and a half as Evidence coordinators at the Clerk's Office. He was always so pleasant, thoughtful and encouraging to everyone he came in contact with. I will cherish the time we worked together and I will miss him very much.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family. He shared stories, pictures and spoke with great pride regarding all of you.
