John William "Bill" Perkins' Obituary
John William “Bill” Perkins passed away on November 30, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents Glen and Dale Perkins and John Nall.
He is survived by his children, Andrew Perkins, Erika Ward (Jarod), Jennifer Cram (Mark), Brian Perkins, Matthew Perkins, and Scott Norman (Tanya). He is also survived by his sister, Kim Gilleran (Gary), 11 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.
Born in Danville, VA on October 22, 1947, Bill grew up in Lake City, Florida. He was an avid musician and the bass player for The Jades. He graduated from Columbia County High School in 1966. He enlisted in the US Navy and served as a combat medic in Vietnam. After he left the service he went to work for the Department of Corrections. He went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology from Florida State University in 1978. He retired from the Department of Corrections in 1998 when his son, Andrew, was born and became a stay-at-home dad for 3 years before returning to work. He permanently retired in 2012.
