Joan C. Rankin's Obituary
Joan C. Rankin, age eighty-nine, passed away at The Village in Gainesville, Florida on Tuesday, January 17, 2017.
Joan married Robert R. Rankin of Chicago in April of 1946. They were married for 55 years before Bob’s death in March, 2001. She and Bob raised eleven children in Wonder Lake, Illinois. They both retired to Florida in the early 1990’s.
Joan and Bob were avid travelers and they visited all 50 states, as well as multiple countries, including China. Besides traveling, Joan loved to read, knit, play her organ, and loved to cook. She worked for Publix Aprons for 20 years as a “demo lady” before retiring at age 88!
Joan is survived by nine of her eleven children and all sixteen of her grandchildren. All of us, as well as her countless friends will miss her and her beautiful smile. Joan’s wishes were to be cremated and placed with her husband, Bob, at the Veterans Memorial Park in Lehigh, Florida.
A memorial mass will be held at Holy Faith Catholic Church on Saturday, January 28th 2017, at 9:00am. The church is located at 747 NW 43rd Street, Gainesville, FL 32607.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Holy Faith Catholic Church or the American Heart Association would make Joan happy.
