Dear Janet and family,
Judy and I are thankful that you, Janet, and Jim were able to participate in our 1964 class seminary reunion in Lexington, VA. You both brought a thoughtful and caring presence to the event. I remember well Jim from seminary days in the early 1960s when he was a serious and curious student of Bible and theology. I identify with him in many ways. I know that he did his graduate work and served faithfully in a number of settings.
It sounds as though you and Jim enjoyed the recent wedding of your youngest son. You all now have that happy memory, plus many others over the years, to recall and rehearse among yourselves.
As I think of Jim's and other friends' death, I recall the poignant words of the hymn "Borning Cry" --"When the evening gently closes in and you shut your weary eyes, I'll be there as I have always been, with just one more surprise" (ELW, 732). Gold will surprise us!
We look forward to seeing you, Janet, and for now must offer a hug from a distance May the Lord continue to sustain you all.
