Jackson "Jack" William Whitehurst Sr's Obituary
Jackson William Whitehurst Sr. beloved husband, father, grandaddy, brother and son departed this earthly life peacefully in his sleep on September 30, 2023, at the age of 68. He was proceeded in death by his Father William Jackson Whitehurst II and Marry Harris Whitehurst. He leaves behind his wife of forty-nine years Charlene Rodrick Whitehurst, children Stephanie Whitehurst, Jackson Whitehurst, Jr., Sarah Whitehurst and William Whitehurst, Sr., as well as twenty grandchildren.
Jack was born and raised outside of Williston, in the rural community of Raleigh where he loved running around the family farm with his siblings and cousins. Jack was raised by loving parents who instilled in him a love for family and a strong work ethic which he learned to put into practice growing up working with his Daddy at the family road construction business V.E. Whitehurst & Sons.
Jack attended and graduated Williston High School in 1973 where he was active in FFA and football, he was voted MVP and elected to the All-State Football Team. After high school, he married his sweetheart Charlene in 1974 and went on to join the family business. Jack was Vice President of V.E Whitehurst & Sons and served on multiple road builders boards throughout his career.
Jack was very active and had lots of hobbies throughout his life. He enjoyed team roping with his friends and children. During their high school years, you could find them hauling horses around the state going to roping’s and rodeos. Jack inherited a love for flying from his Daddy and over the years he went on to fly hundreds of hours in his two Cessna airplanes. Jack loved to hunt and would spend countless hours in the woods listening to his hunting dogs run the various game across the swamps and timber land of Florida. Over the past few years if he wasn’t in the woods, you would find him either in his garden raising delicious vegetables, which he loved to share with his family and friends, or in his greenhouse growing Orchids. When the weather was nice you would find Jack in his beloved airboat somewhere off the coast of Ceder Key reeling in a redfish with one of his friends or family. His love for the outside also extended to his passion for growing sugar cane, which he turned into award winning cane syrup.
Jack was passionate about work and hobbies, but there was nothing he loved to do more than dote on his grandchildren and family. If you were around him for any amount of time, he would inevitably tell you how proud he was of one of his children or grandchildren. Jack went by a lot of titles, he was called son, brother, honey, daddy, nandy and daa. But most importantly, Jack was called beloved son by his Savior, Jesus Christ, who he dearly loved and on this past Saturday evening Jack heard, “well done my good and faithful servant.”
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 6, 2023, 10:00 a.m. at Williston Church of God 850 S.W. 7th Ave Williston, FL. with Rev. Wes Smith officiating.
