Jackie Lee (Jack) Thompson's Obituary
Jackie Lee (Jack) Thompson passed away peacefully at home September 28, 2022 surrounded by his loving wife, JoAnn, his son Anthony and Lisa his daughter-in-law.
Jack was born in Horton, Alabama on December 1, 1936, to James Ward and Gertrude Chandler Thompson. He was the 7th bubbly bundle of 9 children.
He is predeceased by his father and mother, siblings, Jewell, Etoile, Alton, Earl, Sue and Kenneth.
He is survived by his sisters, Barbara Jo Fowler and Dorothy Nelson; his sons and their wives’ Anthony (Lisa) Thompson and Craig (Faith) Thompson; his grandchildren, Nicolas (Jeannette), Amanda, Dannielle and Nikkol and great granddaughter, Lelia.
After being raised in the farming community of Boaz, Alabama, at the foothills of Sand Mountain, he moved to Gainesville. He met his beautiful wife by knocking her off her feet while roller skating. She survived and they were married June 7, 1959.
Jack worked at the University of Florida for 43 years and although no buildings were named after him, no monument erected in his honor. He took the chance to know love and serve each and every friend as well as all his family members. His kindness, industriousness, creative engineering known as ‘Thompsonizing’, is remembered by all who knew him. He worked tirelessly with the Newberry marching band to help make programs successful. His tireless work ethic to help friends at the drop of the hat left his wife wondering why the backdoor knob was never fixed, although he was a locksmith. We celebrate his entrance into heaven.
For those who wish, donations may be made to North Central Baptist Church, 8001 NW 23rd Ave, Gainesville, FL 32606.
The family will receive friends Sunday, October 2, 2022 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Williams-Thomas Funeral Home Westarea, 823 NW 143rd Street, Newberry. A celebration of Jack’s life will be held on Monday, October 3, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at North Central Baptist Church, with a reception to follow. Burial will be at Forest Meadows Central Cemetery.
