Jack Millward's Obituary
Jack Millward, age 91, of Melrose, Florida, passed away at Haven E.T. York Hospice Care Center in Gainesville, Florida on July 30, 2019. Born in Birmingham, England on September 8, 1927, he served in the British Royal Navy, storming Sword Beach on D-Day. After the war, he lived a colorful and interesting life traveling the globe. Among his many pursuits were crocodile hunting in Australia; diamond drilling in Africa; working on the Alaskan Pipeline; oyster, crab, and shrimp fishing in Florida; and managing a bed and breakfast in North Carolina. For the past 25 years, he lived in Melrose where he had family and lots of friends. He loved dogs, classical music, a “good cuppa” of tea or coffee, and sitting on a dock at sunset.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Beryl Collingwood Millward. He was also preceded in death by his father, Thomas Boraston Millward; his mother, Lily Gunstan Millward; his brother Ralph Millward; and his sister, Edna Millward Ridgeway Evans.
He is survived by his daughter, Sue Tillery and her husband, Reid Tillery of Melrose; grandson, Warren Tillery and his wife Leslie Tillery, of McDonough, Georgia; and sister Betty Millward Miller of Canterbury, England. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, one of which made a grand and healthy entrance into the world on the same day Jack passed away.
On Saturday, August 10, at 11:30 A.M., a Palatka Live Oak will be planted in his memory on the grounds of the apartment complex where he lived so happily for his last five a half years. Following the tree planting, from noon to 2:30 P.M, there will be a pot-luck celebration of his life at the Melrose Community Center. All friends are invited.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Haven Hospice in Gainesville or Puppy Hill Farm in Melrose.
