Hershal “Herb” Meizius passed away peacefully at 9:24pm on September 3rd, 2020, at the age of 74. He is survived by his wife Rose, sons Ian and Aaron, daughter Rachael, grandchildren Abigail, Russell, Lily and Finnley, and sister Read Obituary
Herb was one of the reasons I have the profession I have. I was a waitress in an all-night diner and he and his colleagues used to come in for coffee. Eventually they suggested I try for a job in the 9-1-1 center. That led to some truly rewarding work. I enjoyed working with him and am saddened to know he is gone.

It was my honor to work with Lieutenant Meizius at The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office. He was a strong leader who cared about the welfare of his troops. He demanded professional conduct, but was known to like a good prank. I have enjoyed reconnecting with Herb in recent years and am so sorry to hear of his passing. He was a great Patriot! May comfort in good memories soon displace his family’s grief! Godspeed Lieutenant!
