George Jude Held's Obituary
George Held had a huge passion for traveling and hiking. He and his wife, Elsa Held, shared their 31 years of marriage traveling the world together. Unique memories were made in remote areas..from Australia, New Zealand, Africa, safaris in the Bush, Europe, Great Britain, Medeira and Iceland, to Canada and Alaska. As an avid hiker, George loved the US National Parks.
George had a brilliant mind and the remarkable capacity to research, comprehend and retain the most complex subject matter. He was a registered nurse and worked at Shands Hospital and Shands Rehab, prior to retiring. He was enthusiastic about sharing knowledge and possessed a special ability to deliver the information in a manner that the listener would comprehend. George was well-known for assisting nursing students after class to better understand the concepts. He could break any subject down for elementary students, as well. George strongly encouraged nieces and nephews and highly supported their interests and education. He made a profound impact on the lives of countless students.
George taught at Sante Fe Community College. He was involved with the debate team. Prior to nursing, George worked for the State of Florida.
George proudly dedicated 7 years to his country by serving in the US Army. He was stationed in Fort Bragg and Wiesbaden.
George: family patriot, devoted, compassionate, loving husband, brother, uncle, friend, registered nurse, veteran, and mentor, passed away on October 15, 2021.
Born in Rochester, NY on September 2, 1956, to the late George Joseph Held and late Marilyn Inez (McMahon) Held. George is survived by his wife, Elsa Held; siblings Barbara Held, Susan Held, Eric Held, Karl Held, and wife Lisa Held, Regina Rudnick and husband Keith Rudnick; Elsa's sisters, Irene Davis, and Angela Hampson; cousins Kathy Culotta, Bernie McMahon, Jim McMahon, Carol McMahon, among other cousins and a host of friends.
George maintained very active, engaging relationships with nieces and nephews: John Held and wife Summer Held and sons Gunnar and Brantley Held; Nikky Wood and husband Adam Wood and sons Ethan and Malcolm Wood; Amy Held and daughters Cassidy and Julia Held; Sarah Hampson, Kyle Hampson, July Hampson; Anna Held, Rachel Held, Hunter Held; Gracie Rudnick, Meghan Rudnick, and Joey Rudnick.
We have been forever blessed and enriched by the positive impact George has had in our lives. George will forever remain in our hearts and souls. Keep a part of him with you as you travel through life. Take a walk in nature, he will be with you.
