Uncle Cap was the one sweetest kindest person I ever new. He will be truly missed.
Meeting the Reiger family as a young teenager you could feel the kindness and love he had for his family. My memories of Mr. Reiger were a quiet kind man, he drove from Maine to Florida with his wife teenage daughters and a teenage friend. What a trip we had one of my happy memories of adventures with the Reiger's
Mr Reiger was such a lovely neighbor for my family's 40 years in Gainesville. We so appreciated all the times he took a look at our car engine or lawn mower and got us going.
So many good memories with this great man. He was a great friend and co-worker at the Post Office. He and I spent many hours representing carriers through our local union. He loved helping others. He was honest and had a great sense of humor. We had some good times fishing. Always loved being around him. I know he will be missed. My condolences to Martha, James, Margaret and the others. My dad loved his family unconditionally. He was a gentle warrior who loved God, family and country. These are things I will forever and always cherish from his character. His kindness and generosity will be remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Some things I learned from my Dad:
- Keep God first, everything else falls into place;
- Be willing to sacrifice for your country - do what is right, fight and defend our liberties, future generations are counting on us;
- Keep your promises - your word is your bond;
- Be devoted to your spouse- the two of you become one;
- If you’re not early, you’re late - respect others time;
- Be content with what you have and find time to do things you love to do;
- Speak your truth in love ~ some people will hold it against you but right is right, so don’t tolerate wrongdoing;
- Be especially patient, kind and helpful with youngsters and the elderly;
- Forgive others, you can be better or bitter- better is best;
- If you give a man a fish, you feed him for the day; teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime;
- There’s no better place than the deer woods to get some much needed rest;
- If you get a chance to listen to the loons on any lake in northern Maine, take it;
- Live ready - we’re none guaranteed another breath;
- Water will rust your pipes; and
- Normal people only eat 3 cookies at a time!
Dad, you’re always in my thoughts. I miss you so much. I treasure the time we had together and the special bond we had. May I live in a manner that honors your legacy. I know you are watching over us all from heaven, daddy. Save a place for me, I’ll be this side of heaven until the Father calls me home.
Dad, I am so blessed. I miss you. I love you.
