Elizabeth "Liz" Bennett Horne's Obituary
Elizabeth “Liz” Bennett Horne, sweetest and most wonderful mother, wife, and friend, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, October 17, 2021. She was born September 15, 1953 in Denver, CO to James and Verne Bennett Horne.
She always said her greatest project was her two children, Eleanor and Edward. She met and married her devoted husband, Erik Deumens, on November 29, 1986. She was a force of nature and has touched many aspects of her community. She was an administrator at Shands; a teacher at City College; a realtor; an administrator at Oak Hammock; and a vocal and vibrant member of the Democratic Party and the Blue Wave Coalition of Alachua County.
In her own words:
I am a reactivated activist
a "greenie" and a pacifist
a sign carrying demonstrator
try to be a lover not a hater
love my family love this earth
more than shopping or net worth
love my friends and the kids in band
and what I've come to understand
is we all have to come together NOW
So all our children--
they are all our children—
will have a future....
Liz is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, Erik Deumens, children, Eleanor Olivia Horne Deumens and Edward Bennett Horne Deumens; father-in-law, Herwig Deumens; brothers-in-law, Herman and Herwig Deumens; Sister-in-law, Marie Schuurmans.
A Gathering to celebrate Liz’s life will be held Friday, October 22, 2021 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Williams-Thomas Funeral Home Downtown. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Liz’s memory to Blue Wave Coalition, https://www.bluewavecoalitionpbc.com/donate or Humane Society of Marion County, http://thehsmc.org/donate/.
