Dr. Walter John Starr's Obituary
Dr. Walter John Starr, a man of honor and dedication, passed away suddenly at the age of 78. Born on July 28, 1945, he unexpectedly passed away on April 6th, 2024.
John leaves behind a legacy of love and strength. He is survived by the love of his life Doreen and his brother Paul (Dana). He was a loving father to his daughter Erika and his son Alan (Karen). His presence will be deeply missed by his proud grandchildren Kierstin, Alan, Morgan, Zachary, Lucas, and Kaitlyn.
John led a life filled with service and pride. His commitment to his country was unwavering as he served in the Air Force, a chapter in his life that he carried with honor. After his military service, John passionately worked in the radio industry for many years. In 2013, he lived out his dream and obtained his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Mass Communications degree from the University of Florida. He was currently working as a Professor at the University of Florida college of Journalism and Communications.
John was a member of Holy Faith Catholic Church where he served on the alter. His community and Catholic faith were very important to him.
As we bid farewell to Dr. John Starr we are reminded of a life well-lived—a life defined by faith, service to others and love for family.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at 12:00 P. M. at Holy Faith Catholic Church, 747 NW 43rd Street, Gainesville, with Father Jose Kulathinal, celebrant. The family will receive friends for a viewing and rosary service for one hour prior to the service, beginning at 11:00 A. M. Interment will be held on Friday, April 12, 2024, at 11:00 A. M. in Greenwood Cemetery, Orlando with military honors.
