John was a classmate of mine at Stamford Catholic High School. Unfortunately I didn’t get to know him well ~ reading his obituary, I see that he was a very accomplished, religious and dedicated man.

The members of the Stamford Catholic High School Class of 63 extend their heartfelt sympathy and prayers on John’s passing. One of our fondest memories is the men’s cheerleading squad of which John was an enthusiastic member. May our Lord enfold John in His loving arms and provide peace of mind heart to his family and dear friends
John loved and taught through quiet service. I only knew at church, always kind. He and Doreen are important as living members of the community. I pray for our consolation and joy with our hope through Mary to Jesus.
My wife, Cathryn, and I (John) will remember John Starr as a person who was an altar server at Saturday Mass at Holy Faith Catholic Church. He and his wife, Doreen, had a special place in our hearts since she was always around after mass giving us the status of her husband. He was a proud man but dedicated to his Catholic religion. Doreen told us that John had just gotten out of the hospital and was still serving at mass on that Saturday. I couldn't believe it, as it was Doreen's feeling as well. In John's death, he will certainly be in God's hands since he loved his church so much. Bless him forever.
John was a very nice guy and a great neighbor for several years. He was easy to speak with and, being veterans, we had much in common. We are all so very sorry to know of his untimely death but we wish Doreen and the family peace.

John was a uniformly kind person whose irrepressible laugh lightened the doctoral load of his cohort. His performance on a class project that led to a published research paper was stellar. Seeing him in the Weimer Hall hallway was a highlight. He was a treasure who will be missed by all who knew him.
John was my boss for 10 years while I worked at WGGG radio in Gainesville. Great guy to work for, even better person. And happily, when he came to UF, I was here at UF working so we would run into one another and he would always stop and say hello and we would talk about working together as we did all those years ago. Dr. Starr, you will be very missed! I am so glad I got to know you when I worked in the ADV department. I'll miss our talks so much, and I'll miss seeing you in the hallway every week. Thanks for always being so kind, and for all the really cool stories you shared. Rest well <3.
