Dr. Jack Arlyn Seawright's Obituary
Dr. Jack Arlyn Seawright, 84, of Gainesville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, leaving behind a legacy of scientific excellence, global service, and deep devotion to his family.
Born in September 1941, Dr. Seawright built a distinguished career in genetics. As an entomologist and geneticist with the United States Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Research Service, he spent decades at the Insects Affecting Man and Animal Research Laboratory in Gainesville. His work advanced the understanding and control of disease-carrying mosquitoes and other vectors, and he authored numerous scientific publications that contributed meaningfully to medical entomology and public health.
Dr. Seawright was an exceptional research leader, respected for both his scientific rigor and his ability to guide and support those around him. He was a trusted colleague and a loyal friend, known for his integrity, generosity, and steady presence. His expertise took him around the world, where he contributed to humanitarian efforts in regions impacted by insect-borne disease, working to improve health outcomes and support communities in need.
Above all, Jack was a devoted husband and family man. He shared 62 loving years of marriage with his beloved wife, Rebecca, building a life grounded in partnership, loyalty, and enduring love. Together, they created a home filled with warmth, strength, and care for one another.
Jack will be remembered not only for his intelligence and accomplishments, but for his wonderful sense of humor and the joy he brought to those around him. He had a playful spirit and a way of making people feel at ease. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and had a soft spot for puppy dogs, finding happiness in the simple, joyful moments of life.
He is survived by his son, David Seawright and his wife Marlene; his daughter, Amy Seawright; his six grandchildren; and his three great-grandchildren, all of whom carry forward his legacy of curiosity, compassion, and resilience.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Williams-Thomas Westarea, 823 NW 143rd Street, Newberry Fl. 32669. The viewing will be one hour prior at 1:00 p.m.
