Roy and I go back in 1972 when I got to the University of Florida as a math educator, his field also. His dry humor and wit will be remembered. When he became the chair of the department he treated everybody the same regardless of how esteemed they were. He taught me a new item . . . the computer. I sat in his class for several hours until it finally fit my psyche. Obviously, we went on using this "item" beyond what Roy had taught us. I remember when he edited the FCTA newspaper (that I mailed out each month). As I said, he had a tremendous comedic approach to the writing of the newsletter. I always looked forward to the next edition to see what he thought up. He was at my reception for when I retired. I wrote limericks so I wrote one I'll quote here:
Of the first planners of our PROTEACH,
I’m left all alone now to preach,
Of it’s fortune and fame.
Heck what’s in a name,
When you come out of it ready to teach.
I asked about Roy when he moved to the Village. The response was a little laugh. He was pointed out as the man who would always go to a party, even one that he put on.
Roy will be missed tremendously.
