Daniel Edmund Nass' Obituary
Daniel Edmund Nass, age 84 of Gainesville, Florida died of heart and kidney failure at Shands at the University of Florida on June 14, 2022.
Dan was born April 24, 1938, in Manitowoc, WI to the late Hulda Franzmeir Nass and the late Edmund Nass. He attended elementary grades at First German Lutheran School and Graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1956. He attended two years at Manitowoc County Teacher’s College graduating in 1958.
Dan served as a Cryptographic Operator in the US Army for three years in Ankara, Turkey. He then continued his education at the University of Oshkosh where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Upper Education (1964) Magna Cum Laude. Dan then became employed in the Burlington School System.
He married Maralynn Jean Niendorf on August 14, 1965, at First Lutheran Church Manitowoc. Dan and Maralynn enjoyed teaching students in Wisconsin, Florida and international schools in Tunis, Tunisia; London, England; Munich, Germany; Bucharest, Romania and Prague, Czech Republic where he was Headmaster from 1977-1983.
Dan often said that he had learned more from his students than he had taught them. Dan and his wife Maralynn enjoyed the special gift of God to be allowed to travel extensively learning the traditions and customs of different nationalities.
Dan was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran church and in past years served as treasurer, usher, greeter and loved singing tenor in the Zion choir. Dan was an avid sports fan and enjoyed following the Chicago Cubs, the Green Bay Packers, Florida Gators Football Team, season ticket holder for U.F. Girls Gymnastic Team. He loved being at the beach with family and their date nights, Fridays at the Black Adder Brewery here in Gainesville
Dan is survived by his wife of 56 years, Maralynn, brother, Roger Nass (Diana) of Greendale, WI; nephews, David Nass (Dianne) of Bellevue, WI, Jeffrey Nass (Kim), Nicholas Woods (Ann), Michael Allen Nass; niece, Michelle Berman (Mark) along with other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church, 1700 NW 34th St. with Pastor Brian Wrobel officiating. Friends may call two hours prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the church. Memorials would be appreciated for Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church or charity of your choice.
