Cynthia Jane Kachik's Obituary
Cynthia Jane Kachik, 65, longtime resident of Gainesville, Florida, died Thursday, October 20, 2022, at the Shands Hospital at the University of Florida, following a brief illness.
Cynthia was born in Sewickley, Pennsylvania, on July 15, 1957. She moved with her family to Orlando, Florida in 1969, and graduated from Colonial High School in 1975. She continued her education at the University of Florida in 2003, working to receive her Bachelors, Masters, and Ph.D in Higher Education Administration. Most of her professional life was spent as a professor of computer science at Santa Fe College, and she was a lifelong educator.
Cynthia loved bird watching, especially hummingbirds, she was always a cat and dog owner, a diehard Pittsburgh Steelers and Florida Gators fan and recently an RV enthusiast. She was preceded in death by her father Vince Kachik and her stepfather, Don Westfall and her mother-in-law, Wilma Fields.
She is survived by her wife, Barbara Fields; her mother, Barbara Westfall; brothers Vince, James (Sue) and Barry (Janice) and sister Beth; step-brothers, Robert and Jeff, and step-sister Robin, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Cynthia’s life will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at 2:00 P. M., in the Chapel of Williams-Thomas Funeral Home Downtown, 404 North Main Street, Gainesville, with a reception to immediately follow.
