Carl Osberg's Obituary
Carl Osberg passed away after a long illness on March 10, 2023, in Gainesville, Florida. Carl was born to Rollin and Shirley (Chitty) Osberg on June 23, 1956, in Rice Lake, Wisconsin. He learned his work ethic from his early years on the family farm in New Auburn, Wisconsin. When his family moved to the City of Chetek (population 2000, give or take), his lifelong interests in sports, particularly basketball and golf, as well as engineering took hold.
Carl was a standout basketball player, an Eagle Scout, a troop leader, and he won an award for designing the local tourism building, which still greets tourists at the entrance of Chetek. He attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering, and after graduation worked for engineering firms in Madison, Wisconsin and Gainesville, Florida. In addition to working on major public buildings, he specialized in fire suppression, travelling to military bases around the world. His work and leisure travel took him to six of the seven continents. Carl was also the stats guy for the Florida Gators basketball team, and for years, he would be seated courtside at the home games, detailing the plays of the game.
His favorite travel partner and companion in life was Cansel. Together for 29 years, they were married on Valentine’s Day in 1998. He became a stepdad to Emel and Jonathan, and then a grandfather to Elanea and Selena. Their love withstood the challenges of Carl’s illness, and continued to the very end.
Carl was predeceased by his father Rollin. He is survived by his mother, Shirley Dahleen in Chetek, WI, brother Randi (Laurie) in Eau Claire, Wi, his stepchildren, and grandchildren. His wit, his intellect, and his love of good food will be remembered by those lucky enough to have known him.
A celebration of Carl’s life will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. in the Williams-Thomas Westarea Chapel 823 N.W. 143rd Street Newberry, FL. with Dr. Don McGarity as officiant. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made in his memory to www.farmshare.org.
