Bronna Godwin's Obituary
Bronna Godwin passed away Friday, June 4th after an extended illness. Bronna was a strong, vibrant, independent woman that touched everyone in her life.
A child of the great depression, Bronna grew up near Perry, Florida and graduated from Florida State University (Bachelors) and University of Maryland (Masters). Growing up during the depression, Bronna understood the value of a welcoming smile, a sense of humor, and open arms to all those around her. Bronna sponsored many new American citizens from around the world and consider them family.
Bronna was State 4-H Agent at Florida State University, where she met her husband Grant Godwin and later moved to Gainesville Florida.
Bronna made Gainesville her home and was an active member of the community – teaching at Gainesville High School and serving as an executive for the Alachua County School Board. Bronna held leadership roles in the Junior Woman’s Club, University Agriculture Club and Florida School Nutrition Association.
In retirement, Bronna and Grant traveled the world, riding camels at the Egyptian pyramids, touring the canals of Venice by gondola, feeding kangaroos in Australia, enjoying the beaches of Hawaii, and cruising the open seas.
In her later years, Bronna was accompanied by her beloved Yorkie Annabelle. Bronna loved quilting with her great friends at the Tree City Quilters Guild, exercising with her water aerobics friends at Gainesville Health and Fitness, socializing with her friends at The Village, and worshiping with the congregation at Trinity United Methodist Church.
Those closest to her will miss her dearly – son Mark (Karen), daughter Jane (Randy), daughter Ann (Tom), grandchildren, Lauren, Ryan (Lara), Alex (Stephanie) and great grandchildren, Logan, Lawson, Jesse, Lana and Remi. Her extended family is too numerous to mention, but Yufei, Song, Emily, Annie and Alex will hold a special place in her heart forever.
Many people are fortunate to call Bronna their friend, we are blessed to call her mom.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Monday, July 12, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. in the Trinity United Methodist Church Chapel, 4000 NW 53rd Ave, Gainesville. Memorial contributions may be made to Haven Hospice, 4200 NW 90th Blvd, Gainesville, FL 32606.
