It has been my personal honor to have been one of the physicians caring for Betty as she fought her illness for these past eight years. Through it all, I was struck by her grace and courage, and her strong will to endure all that the disease and treatments put her through. The fact that she survived for eight years is, itself, unusual and a tribute to her fighting spirit. Yet, I'm sorry that she lost the battle in the end, but I derive comfort from the fact that she lived a full life, all 81 years of it!
I was also struck by the excellent support she received from her sons, who were always there at every visit and treatment, despite the pressures of their own jobs and personal lives. In my experience, it is a rare situation indeed that sons take such superb care of their mothers in their hours of need. I'm sure her passing represents a great loss for them, and I wish them peace and comfort (in as much as this is possible in their current bereavement).
Betty, I will miss you..
Dr. Bob Wesly.
