I knew Betty when she turned 60 when she first came to The Volunteer Center in Gainesville as Administrative Assistant. Through her years of service there, her constant smile and positive attitude meant so much to the staff members and the volunteers who got placed in meaningful service opportunities through her help at the Volunteer Center. My husband had the privilege of officiating at the wedding of Betty and Scotty and they have been dear friends through these many years. Whenever I spoke with her by phone or through visits, she and I always joked about her ability to make lemonade when lemons came her way especially through various physical difficulties. I always told her she was my hero and mentor giving me a shining example of how to age gracefully. I will miss her deeply but will always think of her anytime I see lemons or lemonade!!!
