In Loving Memory of Barbara H. Bergin
On Sunday September 23, Barbara lost her long battle with cancer at the Haven Hospice in Gainesville, FL. Barbara H. Bassriel was born in Indonesia, and with her mother and 2 brothers traveled to Holland and eventually immigrated to the United States and resided in Danbury, Connecticut.
Barbara met Mike Bergin in 1973, their relationship blossomed, and they married in July 1978. They moved to Gainesville in 1984 when Mike started school at the University of Florida. Barb worked for Gainesville Regional Utilities 22 years before retiring.
She loved working in the yard and gardening but would change her plans in a heartbeat if invited to go for a ride. Barbara was an avid bicycler, who sported a contagious smile and was always eager to ride her road or her mountain bike. One year, Barbara logged almost 11,000 miles on her road bike.
Barbara is survived by her husband Michael, her 2 brothers and their spouses, Hillery and Donna Bassriel, and Ronald and Patricia Bassriel. She also is survived by her nephew Eric Bassriel, Lissette and their 2 children Aiden and Kayla.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, October 13 at 4:00 PM at the Williams Thomas Funeral Home, 404 N. Main St. Gainesville. Donations in loving memory of Barbara can be made to the Haven Hospice, 4200 NW 90th Blvd. Gainesville FL
