Dr. Anthony "Tony" Palmieri, III's Obituary
Dr. Anthony Palmieri III, “Tony” 76, of Gainesville Florida passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2025 from complications of heart failure. He is survived by his wife Cynthia, three children, Matthew (Julie) Palmieri, Cathy (David) Turgeon, and Elizabeth (Jeffery Scott) Creel. Grandchildren Amelia & Alice Palmieri, Jonah, Veronica and Lucy Turgeon & Preace and Margaret Creel and his sister Cindy Palmieri. He is preceded in death by his brother John, parents Shirley Fox and Anthony Palmieri Jr.
Anthony was born in Providence, Rhode Island where he married the love of his life, Cynthia in 1973. Together they lived in Georgia, Wyoming, Michigan and Florida.
Anthony received his B.S. and M.S. in Pharmacy from the University of Rhode Island and his Ph.D. in Pharmaceutics from the University of Georgia. His pharmaceutical career brought him to the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Upjohn Company / Pharmacia in Kalamazoo and the University of Florida in Gainesville. He particularly enjoyed his time as a professor and interacting with the university students.
Anthony authored over 80 publications and presentations on pharmaceutics, dose forms, pharmacy history and education, and intellectual property. He served in numerous leadership roles for many organizations including the American Pharmaceutical Association, the College Fraternity Editors Association, Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity, the Academy of Pharmaceutical Research and Sciences, The Handbook of Pharmaceutical Excipients and the Plainwell (MI) Community Schools School Board.
He loved playing Scrabble and Chess with his family and friends. He was always ready to start up a conversation with anyone or tell a joke to brighten someone's day. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor and unending optimistic attitude.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, November 21, 2025, at The Holy Faith Catholic Church 747 N.W. 43rd Street, Gainesville, Fl.
