Ann Boyd’s front door was always open, literally. The clear glass door on Buzz and Ann’s villa symbolized how welcoming they were to their neighbors (and their neighbors’ dogs). She was the cheerful, witty, energetic lynchpin of the circle that was the Outback as we celebrated street parties together on our island……along with her stuffed kangaroo and her bowl of “crack” cocaine pretzels. I loved our frequent phone calls where we redistributed the fortunes of life at OH, laughed at foibles (some of which were our own) and traded stories of our two beloved families. I have known no brighter spirit than Ann, who was able to keep her candle brightly lit even when she was very ill. I talked to her before I left for the beach and a family reunion. I wish I’d had one more phone cal with her:: I wish I had known her forever: I will miss her forever.
“To laugh often and much, to win the respect of intelligent people…and the affection of children….to earn the appreciation of honest critics….” All this and more in Ralph Waldo Emerson’s words, can be said of Ann.
