Chief Lovvorn inherited me right after I came to work at Gainesville Fire Rescue. I was young and thought I knew everything. He cleared that up for me.He never gave up on me, he is was my mentor, my friend and sometimes my dad.
During that time the department was experiencing the growing pains of change on its way to being the best Fire Rescue department in the nation.
Chief Lovvorns leadership and perseverance during that time was the cornerstone of our departments success. He would always say to me, "Tippy,Its not impossible we just haven't found the right way to get it done yet."
Thank you for everything you did for me, Thank you for all you did for Gainesville Fire Rescue, the Gainesville community and the Florida Fire service.

Although, I have not seen Alan for a long time I remember visiting his home and his wife Gayle and all of his beautiful children. Alan was a true friend and mentor to me and always accepted me. We taught classes together as well as working together at the fire college. Alan suffered some very difficult losses in his life and those of you who know him know what they are but he remain strong in his faith and shared the importance of healing and getting help when you need it. Alan loved his family so very much and would do anything for them. I have no words to express what a difference he made in my life and I am a better person for having known him. I will always love Allen, Gayle and he is joining many others in heaven. True friends are truly difficult to find and I am blessed to be able to call Alan a true friend. My heartfelt sympathies are with his family, fire dept family and friends . Alan truly left his footprints on this earth and touched so many people, many he will never know about and he would truly be missed .Love you and will NEVER FORGET you .Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!Jennifer Tozzo State Fire Instructor III/EMT -Paramedic :MA US Navy veteran , service pup Freedom, Angels Zoe /Kimo

I have so many good memories of Chief Lovvorn at Station 1 and "Red's Square"...
For better or worse he hired me in 1990, and as the training chief he oversaw our recruit class...Of the many, many, things he told us through the years (some more colorful than others)---it was his advice on graduation day that stuck with me...a couple I have repeated it to every recruit class I've spoken to since:
Don't neglect getting your education...your gonna needed to be successful, and don't let anything come between you---and you wanting to come to work. Both have proven invaluable to my career, and I am indebted to him for his leadership.
I also know he loved to sing....so the heavens will most certainly have an outstanding new choir member!
God's speed Chief.
