Alice Marie Talbert's Obituary
Alice Marie Talbert (fondly known as Alice), beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully at Oak Hammock at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, on November 1, 2025. Born in Montclair, New Jersey, on August 25, 1935, she was a dedicated nurse and a cherished member of her community. Alice pursued her education at Barnard College and graduated from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, with a degree in Nursing. Alice met her husband, Dr. James L. Talbert (Jim), while working as a cardiac intensive care nurse at Johns Hopkins Hospital in 1956. The couple married in 1958 and welcomed two children during their time in Baltimore.
In 1967, the Talbert family relocated to Gainesville, Florida, where Jim became the Chief of Pediatric Surgery at the University of Florida. Alice continued her nursing career as a registered nurse in the Recovery Room at the University of Florida’s College of Medicine. In addition to her nursing responsibilities, she enjoyed a second career as a travel agent at Emmer Travel, Inc. Alice was deeply committed to her community, serving tirelessly in various roles for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of North Central Florida and the Alachua County Medical Guild.
One of Alice's greatest joys was her beloved beach house, "Gull Dune," in South Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, where she created treasured memories with family and friends over the past 50 years. Alice is survived by her devoted children, Alison Whitney Talbert and William David Talbert II; her adored grandchildren, Olivia Grace and Adriana Elizabeth Talbert; and her dear friend, Dr. Shirley Modell Graves. She will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, and unwavering dedication to her family and community The Talbert Family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to all the staff at Oak Hammock at the University of Florida and the caregivers who lovingly supported Alice during the past two years.
At Alice’s request, no funeral service is planned. The Talbert Family asks in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of North Central Florida, 2121 S.W. 16th Street, Gainesville, FL 32608.
