Xiehe Ling's Obituary
Mr. Xiehe Ling was born on January 17, 1935, in Liling County, Hunan Province, China. In 2012, he immigrated to the United States. He passed away on April 5, 2025, in Gainesville, Florida.
Mr. Ling received his early education in a Christian missionary school. After graduating from university, he worked as a foreign language translator/educator and was also fluent in English. He participated in the early development and construction of Beidahuang (Great Northern Wilderness) and spent his life devoted to teaching and nurturing students, many of whom went on to great success.
Mr. Ling was not only hardworking but also multi-talented and full of zest for life. He loved classical Chinese poetry and literature, was skilled in poetry writing and calligraphy, practiced martial arts, and had a deep love of music. He often composed his own songs and performed them. He appreciated nature, enjoyed sports, and was diligent and eager to learn, mastering computers and modern multimedia software.
Mr. Ling was a kind, upright, open-minded, cheerful, and humble person who deeply loved his family. To help his granddaughters learn Chinese, he wrote lyrics and composed melodies, creating original
Chinese children’s songs. He was selfless and financially supported colleagues and students who were in need. His descendants and colleagues were all deeply moved and positively influenced by his humble, generous, and principled character.
Mr. Xiehe Ling left cherished memories for his loved ones and friends, and he will be forever remembered by his beloved family—his wife Jiping Li, daughters Lynne Ling and Dahao Ling, their husbands, and
his three granddaughters.
Services will be held Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Williams-Thomas Funeral Home, 404 North Main Street. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 2:00 p.m.
