He was my grandfather. I grew up with him, and it was always exciting to go see him and grandma. We would call them ‘sugar time’ grandparents because every time we went there, we would get showered with kisses and candy. Grandpa was a good man, and he taught me many things in life. I feel lucky to have had as much time with him that I did. I take comfort in knowing that he is always watching over us from heaven.
So many fond memories, where to begin? As a child and teenager, It was our ritual to take walks around our property after dinner, or sometimes dad took us on tractor trailer rides. I immensely enjoyed that family time. I remember him bringing me crackers and cheese at midnight after the birth of my first child. And him arriving at dawn to Brooksville to meet his new grandson. I remember how he taught me about Jesus and getting saved during revival. He always told me how proud he was of me. I remember how worried he was about my daughter, his granddaughter, moving out of state, but oh so proud of her. I remember him knowing just about everyone it seemed. We couldn’t go anywhere without him striking up a conversation with everyone. I love my daddy so much and will miss him every day but I do know that he is with Jesus and that comforts me.
I remember as a child the family was fishing on our boat on the Suwannee River. Us kids were using cane poles but Dad had a rod and reel. As he reached back to cast his line he hooked me in the lip. I was the most upset because there was a worm on the hook on my lip! I had to wait until he stopped laughing before he could remove it. I had a fat lip and a precious memory.
