Wilma June Flocks' Obituary
Wilma June Flocks, 88, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on Sunday, November 23, 2014 following a brief battle with cancer. She was born June 2, 1926, in Heavener, Oklahoma, to Walter Jefferson and Celeste Anne Eskridge. She was the youngest of three sisters and five brothers. After high school, Wilma worked as an x-ray technician in Ft. Smith, Arkansas, where she met Gerald Flocks. They were married June 15, 1949. Wilma and Jerry traveled the world together, living for many years in South America, North Africa, and Asia. During this time they also raised five children. Wilma often commented that she led a remarkable life for a girl from Heavener. Wilma and Jerry retired in Gainesville in 1986, but continued their travels. Jerry died in 2008 and Wilma moved to The Village in 2010, where she made many wonderful friends. She is survived by her children and their spouses: Jayne McLean (Charles), Stephen Flocks (Karen Eberly), Joan Flocks (Paul Monaghan), Jean Brachhold (Paul), and Jim Flocks; four grandchildren: Daniel McLean (Shantell), Neil McLean, Brendan Flocks Monaghan, and Celina Flocks Monaghan; one great grandson: Austin McLean; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and family friends who considered her their second mother. A memorial service to celebrate Wilma’s life will be held Friday, November, 28, 2014, at 10:00 am at WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME WESTAREA, 823 N.W. 143rd Street, Newberry, FL, 32669.
