Wilma C. Bowman's Obituary
Wilma C. Bowman, 83, lifelong resident of Gainesville, Florida, died Monday, April 25, 2016 in the E. T. York Hospice Care Center, following a long illness.
Mrs. Bowman was born in Gainesville on December 13, 1932, to the late James and Nora Carroll. She lived in Gainesville her entire life, graduating from Gainesville High School, and working as an account supervisor for the University of Florida, until her retirement. Mrs. Bowman was a longtime member of Eastside Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Gerald L. Sykes and Eric C. Bowman, and by three sisters, Ellen Atkinson, Christine Fowler, and Audrey Hague, and by two brothers, Leroy Carroll and “Mickey” Lewis Carroll.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Kay (Jimmy) Bass, of Windsor; two sons, Kenneth Gerald (Selena) Sykes, of Lake Butler, and Stephen E. Sykes, of Gainesville; two sisters, Addie Wise, of Gadsden, AL and Judy Banner, of Ft. Payne, AL; two brothers, Arvis Carroll and Coy M. Carroll, both of Hawthorne; five grandchildren, Mathew Bass, Jonathan Bass, Paul Sykes, Kimberly Sykes and Grayson Sykes; eight great grandchildren, Kenny, Sara, Lily, Alaina, Jaylee, Jonathan, Jr., Baylie and Noah.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 29, 2016 at 11:00 A.M., in the Chapel of Williams-Thomas Funeral Home Downtown, 404 North Main Street. Interment will follow in Memorial Park East. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 A.M.
